Venice: Day of Arrival
We arrived at the Marco Polo airport excited to start our adventure. The first thing we did was to follow RS Advice: Purchase your Vaporetto Pass at the airport before leaving for Venice. We purchase the 72-hour pass since we arrived 2 days before our tour began, and our tour would be in Venice for 2 days. It worked perfectly! When leaving the airport we followed RS Advice and took the airport shuttle bus to Piazzale Roma. From there we caught the vaporetto down the Grand Canal to St. Marks Square! Our grand tour began with a cruise down the Grand Canal, what a way to experience Venice! Don't forget to validate your vaporetto pass when boarding the waterbus!
We easily found Hotel Mercurio using the map included with our tour information! We checked into our hotel, our room had a canal view! The gondolas would glide past with musicians singing Venetian opera. What an experience!
We had dinner at an outdoor cafe then made our way to Piazza San Marco after dark. RS Advice: Enjoy a drink at one of the elegant cafes on St. Mark's Square and witness the dueling orchestras! Pinch me!

Our first full day in VeniceToday's Agenda:
|
Today was our first full day in Italy! We wandered through the back lanes, enjoyed our first Italian Gelato, and got lost! We walked to the Rialto Bridge in a dream like daze. Pinch me are we really here? We walked until we got lost! RS Advice: "Keep reminding yourself, I'm on an island, and I can't get off". Follow the arrows on the building and when all else fails ask someone, "Dov'e San Marco?" Well, we asked a nice man in an official looking vest. He said, follow me! Twenty euros later we were taken to our hotel! I would suggest you avoid the guys in the official vests! It was still an amazing experience. |
Cicchetti Tour
This evening we went on a Cicchetti Tour, it was a perfect Venice evening. We embarked on a delicious adventure with a three-hour Venice tour that stopped off at Bacari wine bars with samples of their delicious cicchetti dishes. We also rode a traghetto gondola standing up to the Rialto area as we visited another Bacari wine bar. We highly recommend this tour! We loved the wine, the food and meeting the wonderful people! By the end of the tour we were all good friends sharing emails. The Cicchetti tour was our favorite activity in Venice! Fresh Advice: You must go on a bar crawl! We haven't even started our tour yet! |
