Venice's Lagoon
Murano and Burano
Today's Agenda:
- Murano and Burano
- Tour meeting at 5
- St. Mark's Square after dark
Our tour begins this evening at 5:00PM. So we have all day to explore, right? We decided to visit the islands of Murano and Burano. At 10:00AM we took the Vaporetto from St. Mark's Square around the island and out to Murano. We strolled along the canal, Fondamenta dei Vetrai. Since we were there on a Sunday most of the shops and factories were closed, but window shopping was worth the time! The Venetian glass was amazing.
We took the vaporetto on to Burano. This island is known for its lace making! It is also know for the vibrantly colored homes. I did purchase some beautiful linen. They are easier to pack than Venetian glass! RS Advice: Lunch at Trattoria al Gatto Nero. The restaurant is on a quiet peaceful canal. It was a meal to remember, and a must try if you visit Burano! After lunch, we caught the vaporetto at 2:00 to head back to Venice. Well, we caught the wrong vaporetto…. to be continued.

At 4:45 we are still on the vaporetto, panicked! We are going to be late to our tour meeting. RS Advice: Do not be late! Oh, YIKS. What to do. We were instructed to wear a money belt at all time. In that money belt keep all your valuables and important phone numbers! I located the hotel phone number, used my precious minutes on my cell phone and called. I asked them to let our travel escort know that we would be late. When we arrived at the meeting 30 minutes late, we were embarrassed but greeted warmly by all. Moral of the story, check twice before jumping on that vaporetto. Make sure it's not taking the long road! YIKS! Fresh Advice: double check, triple check to make sure you are on the correct vaporetto!

Here is our 13 day itinerary:
Our group! Everyone was so nice! We were from all over the country including California, Minnesota, Florida, Oregon, Tennessee, Colorado, Washington, and Vancouver, Canada! Our tour escort and bus driver were beyond wonderful! We had many lovely breakfasts talking about our plans for the day ahead. We enjoyed many happy hours and dinners sharing stories from the day and planning our next adventure. And of course sharing stories about our families and travel moments! Many laughs along the way!
By the way… we have a photo bomber in our mists… can you pick him out?
He is in the bomber jacket with the neck scarf! Our Italian friend wanted to join in the fun as his wife took our picture!
Our lovely tour escort, Laurel lives in Sweden. She was so helpful. Everyday she had time set aside for those of us who had questions about the places we were visiting. During our bus rides she would walk up and down the isles helping us with our daily plans. She was invaluable! Thanks Laurel!
Our bus driver was amazing. We always felt safe with him behind the wheel! He took us to San Gimignano his hometown! Thank you!! |
